Body Butter TutorialSomeone requested I add a body butter tutorial to the web site, and this is something I needed to research first. About a year ago, I remember seeing body butters in the mall and thought "Wow, how cool." Now, they don't seem so difficult anymore. From what I have noticed - most people's body butter recipes are actually lotion, with some high quality butters (cocoa, shea, etc), and almost as thick as a cream. I recommend you follow the Lotion Making Tutorial for making Body Butters, but use your creativity and experiment with this one a bit. Here are a few suggestions/tips I have found common in body butters: Cocoa butter is the most commonly used "butter"
in these products. You can most likely get away with using no stearic acid in this recipe if the butters are your main ingredients - they are very high in stearic, and if used as the majority of the oils would make a thicker butter without the need of stearic additive. Essential oils seem to be a favorite here - blends may be popular - I tend to think of body butters as being applied to extremely dry places on the body - other than the face and hands, and for stretch marks. Essential oils are best for scent/healing if you are dealing with extreme dryness. Get a little crazy - try making a body butter by melting down butters, adding very little liquid oils, and maybe a teeny bit of cornstarch. See what you come up with. Basic instructions for making body butters: Melt all ingredients, blend together while cooling. Have fun experimenting, and if you have any other tips you would like to add, please let Mel know!
